Independent Member for Shepparton District Suzanna Sheed called out the Victorian National and Liberal Parties for a misinformation text campaign against Victoria’s independent MPs.
“Shepparton constituents have reported receiving text messages from the National and Liberal Parties stating that I voted with Daniel Andrews and Labor to pass new lockdown laws, and so too did Mildura’s independent, Ali Cupper,” Ms Sheed said.
“I am appalled that the Nationals and Liberals are taking the low road and sending out false information to residents.
“We have seen the likes of United Australia Party’s Craig Kelly taking this approach and it is certainly not the way politicians with any integrity should behave. “It shows the Nationals are grasping at straws to remain relevant when their views and policies are so far outdated.
“I voted against the Pandemic bill when it came before the house on October 28.
“The truth about what happened in parliament yesterday, is that the Pandemic bill amendments came back to the Legislative Assembly after lengthy debate in the upper house and I supported the amendments, just as all the other parties did, including the National and Liberal parties, on the final vote.
“It is widely accepted that the hard work of independents in bringing about these crucial amendments has resulted in a bill more suited to a pandemic rather than the State of Emergency legislation.”
