Premier Daniel Andrews today committed to both fund the Shepparton Education Plan and visit the Greater Shepparton region in the near future to meet with students, teachers and stakeholders.
The commitment came in response to a question asked on the floor of parliament by Independent Member for Shepparton District Suzanna Sheed.
“Some constituents in my electorate have expressed concerns that funding to complete the Shepparton Education Plan was not contained in this year’s budget,” Ms Sheed said.
“Premier, will you commit to funding the Shepparton Education Plan and when can my constituents expect to see this commitment fulfilled?”
The Premier responded that his government was committed to numerous projects in Shepparton including the Education Plan and Goulburn Valley Health redevelopment.
“It is a pretty bold plan, and it has not been universally supported all the way along, so to take that vision to the community is very, very important, and the community support for the project has been no small thing,” Mr Andrews said.
“Whilst there is not further funding allocated in this year’s budget, I do look forward to being able to make further announcements in future budgets.”
The Premier also committed to visit Shepparton in the near future.
“I will be there … for the topping out of the hospital—$169 million invested by Labor in that hospital,” he said.
“I will be delighted, if time permits, to meet with the member for Shepparton, to meet with students and anyone else in the community who is interested in these education matters.”
