Health Minister to Visit Shepparton
Health Minister Jill Hennessy will visit Goulburn Valley Health following an invitation from the Independent Member for Shepparton District Suzanna Sheed.
Ms Sheed used her adjournment debate in parliament this week to draw the Health Minister’s attention to the plight of Goulburn Valley Health.
"This health facility has suffered from underinvestment for too long and is now struggling to cope," Ms Sheed said.
"We need urgent funding in the forthcoming budget for the preparatory stages of a new development and a commitment to funding a development more suited to the Shepparton district’s needs today and into the future."
Ms Sheed urged the Minister to visit Shepparton to see first-hand "the need for that investment".
The Minister for Health said she was aware of the problems facing Goulburn Valley Health.
"I understand that Goulburn Valley Health is facing quite demanding growth pressures in terms of servicing the community," she said.
"I intend to visit Goulburn Valley Health in March, and I look forward to gaining a more direct understanding of some of the pressures it is under."
The Minister for Health said she was not in a position to make budget announcements at this stage.
"But I commend the member for her advocacy on behalf of her local community."
Ms Sheed said she looked forward to welcoming the Health Minister to Shepparton next month.
