DOCTOR SERVICE DELIVERED TO SHEPPARTON DISTRICT SCHOOLS
Independent Member for Shepparton District Suzanna Sheed says she’s pleased three local schools have been included in the new Doctors in Secondary Schools initiative.
Numurkah Secondary College, McGuire College and Shepparton High School have been named in the Victorian Government program today, which will see a local doctor visit the school up to one day a week.
“This is an initiative, which should contribute to ensuring that health problems are identified and addressed early by making health care more accessible.
I look forward to seeing how well this initiative is taken up after it’s rolled out next year,” Ms Sheed said.
She likened it to such local initiatives as the Shepparton Neighbourhood Schools program.
“These are three primary schools, working together in order to achieve a better outcome for the health and wellbeing of its children,” Ms Sheed said.
“Under this multi-disciplinary program, the school assists the parent or guardian to obtain a referral to a paediatrician, through their GP, and the consultation is undertaken at a school clinic.
We are fortunate in the Shepparton District electorate to have such educators, who are passionate about our children, and their needs, and who are open to have such programs introduced at our schools,” Ms Sheed said.
