$20.5m boost for Shepparton Education Plan

April 20, 2018/in Media Releases

Independent Member for Shepparton District Suzanna Sheed has welcomed a historic investment in education for the region.

The Victorian Government today announced $20.5m towards the Shepparton Education Plan to fund the first stage of the Shepparton’s new secondary school, as well as an Integrated Children’s Centre at Mooroopna.

The current Shepparton High School site was also announced as the location for the new super school.

Ms Sheed said she was thrilled with the funding commitment.

“This is a momentous occasion for Shepparton,” Ms Sheed said.

“Members of this community have been fighting for investment in our secondary schools for nearly thirty years and now we have finally been able to achieve an outcome that will provide so many opportunities for our kids.

“This has also been a personal passion of mine since entering Parliament and it is just so exciting to see such a positive result for our community.”

Ms Sheed said the Integrated Children’s Centre would provide important wrap-around services to the Mooroopna community.

“We all know how important the early years are to a child’s future, and this centre will help lay the foundations for the best possible start to life for children in that community,” Ms Sheed said.

“The Shepparton Education Plan was designed to support children from birth through to 18 years, and there will be more work in the early years and primary school sectors as we move forward.”

Ms Sheed also thanked the members of the Strategic Advisory Committee for their contribution and leadership.

“The Strategic Advisory Committee have been working hard for nearly a year to bring about this fundamental change,” Ms Sheed said.

“It has been a gruelling process to come to a position that will offer the best results for the most people, while taking into account the particular needs of our community, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their efforts.”
